As their General Counsel continues to build the legal team, the Bank is seeking to add a Legal Counsel to provide advice on regulatory and capital markets matters. This individual will advise on regulatory matters, including those under the Bank Act, consumer protection legislation and privacy legislation. This person will work closely with business units to provide practical legal solutions and risk management advice. In addition, this person will also work on corporate funding initiatives, including debt and equity transactions, capital markets activity and regulatory filings. This position is located in Toronto’s Financial District and is hybrid with 3 days in the office.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years’ experience with regulatory law, including the Bank Act, consumer protection laws and privacy legislation, gained from a law firm or bank / FI. An understanding of marketing and IP law will be important to succeed. In addition, experience with corporate funding transactions will be of interest. You must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to interpret and apply complex regulations in a practical business context. You must also be able to work independently and be able to manage multiple priorities.
