Job Description – Associate, litigation (Senior) Lawyer

Our client is seeking to add a Litigation lawyer to their team in Victoria and are open to candidates located in Vancouver or Victoria. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of six years of litigation experience, ideally with experience in Aboriginal law matters. Experience with constitutional litigation and/or administrative law would be considered an asset. The successful candidate must have exceptional advocacy skills, strong work ethic and practice standards, excellent organizational and time management skills, and a passion for the law in service of First Nations clients.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Assist and represent First Nations governments, groups, and organizations in a variety of complex litigation matters.
  • Prepare court documents, including applications, affidavits, briefs, and pleadings.
  • Participate in and support business development activities, including client relationship management.

Education and Professional Skills/Knowledge

  • LL.B. or J.D. degree (or equivalent).
  • Good standing with a Canadian Law Society.
  • 6+ years of litigation experience, preferably with experience in Aboriginal law matters.
  • Exceptional advocacy skills.
  • Strong work ethic and practice standards.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to explain complex legal concepts and procedural information across disciplines and cultures.
  • Strong team player with the ability to balance working independently and within interdisciplinary teams including providing mentorship to junior associates.
  • Willingness to participate in cultural and professional events (external and internal) including speaking engagements.
