Bring your excellent investigative and communication skills to our teamas an Investigator in the College’s Professional Conduct and RegulatoryAffairs (PCRA) department.The PCRA department responds to inquiries from the public about dentalconcerns, investigates the conduct of dentists, provides support to the College’sInquiries, Complaints and Reports (ICR) Committee and Discipline Committee intheir decision-making roles, and enforces committee decisions.As an investigator, you will use knowledge of the profession’s governing legislationto impartially investigate complaints and Registrar’s investigations against Ontariodentists. As part of a team of investigators, you will manage investigations with thesupport of administrative staff. The investigations are presented to the College’sICR Committee for review and decision-making. This role reports to the TeamLead, Investigations.We are hiring two investigators for 14-month contract positions with an anticipatedstart date of early January 2021. Investigators are working remotely until furthernotice.What can I expect to do in this role?You will:

  • Investigate complaints and reports, which may involve visiting dental offices,collecting documents and information, analyzing charts and records,interviewing witnesses, arranging expert opinions, and preparing reports
  • Request records and information from various sources during the investigation
  • Review and disclose records of investigation (ROIs) to parties
  • Review dentists’ responses to complaints and reports to assist team inpreparing for ICR Committee meetings
  • Securely maintain dental charts, records and case files to ensure integrity andaccuracy of process and adhere to legislated requirements and timeline
  • Respond to telephone and written inquiries and draft memos to prosecutingcounsel as require
  • Manage case files using the College’s case management system
  • Represent the College at the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board,when required
  • Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • Travel within Ontario may be required
  • Other duties as assigned

What skills and background do I need?The Investigator requires:

  • Completion of university degree in a related field, or equivalent workexperience; LLB or equivalent is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience and training with various investigative techniquesand superior investigation skills
  • Knowledge of the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA), relatedlegislation, and administrative tribunal procedures an asset
  • Superior organizational, time management and case management skills
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and work well under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, and ability to synthesize large volumesof information and documentation
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, written and interviewing skills
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team
  • Sound judgement and ability to work objectively and maintain confidentially
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of dental practice operations is an assetHow do I apply?
