Community Legal Worker/Paralegal For close to 50 years, CSSP has been providing a wide variety of services and programs for the Latinx/Hispanic community in Toronto and the GTA. The Legal Clinic is funded by Legal Aid Ontario and mandated to provide legal advice and representation to the Spanish-speaking community in the Province. This position is a one-year contract for a program funded by The Law Foundation of Ontario to provide services and outreach to Spanish speaking seniors. Who You Are and What You’ve Done:● Legal training and relevant experience in Canadian poverty law, litigation and working with vulnerable populations or a licensed paralegal in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario ● Excellent organizational, time management, advocacy and effective problem solving skills ● Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to deliver public presentations to diverse audiences ● Experience developing plain language and engaging material for the public ● Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to express ideas and opinions clearly and effectively in both English and Spanish ● Experience working with legal clinics or a legal office setting ● Strong computer skills related to clinics’ casefile management system and digital practice● Experience working with seniors is an assetWhat You Will Do: ● Provide legal services, including summary advice, document preparation and client representation ● Liaise with administration, community partners and coordinate the delivery of workshops ● Respond courteously and professionally in the delivery of service ● Make appropriate referrals according to service needs ● Provide intake and registration of clients ● Ensure client records and files are accurate and current ● Conduct outreach and build partnerships with community agencies serving the Latinx/Hispanic community ● Prepare statistical and written reports as required ● Participate in regularly scheduled meetings and training ● Facilitate training of staff, volunteers, and students ● Other duties as required to ensure continuation of the program to the community What We Offer You:● A one-year contract working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday ● The salary is CAD $65,000 for the term of the contractApplication processAll applicants are asked to submit a cover letter, resume and contact information for two professional references to careers@spanishservices.org using the subject line “CSSP CLW/Paralegal Position” by May 26, 2023.All offers for employment with CSSP are contingent upon the candidate having successfully completed acriminal background check.
